A flurry of found materials, wheat paste, ink, and charcoal:  the immersive experience of “Mycelium” aimed to address the personal question of whether one can feel expansive and constricted at the same time. This installation, which was on display October of 2020 in the Paul Creative Arts Center in Durham, NH is an examination of both Shannon’s and society’s tendency to rely on consumption as a means of coping.
Leftovers like Grandpa’s forgotten atlas, rain-damaged Elvis paraphernalia, and forgotten magazines among other scavenged oddities act not only as inspiration but become the art itself. The hope is to pose questions that further our collective sense of wonder.
This temporary installation was constructed  over the course of 38 hours with a car full of random materials from my studio and only intuition as a guide. “Mycelium”  remained installed for two weeks until it was wholly disassembled and recycled into later projects.
