The drawing of this piece was a cathartic necessity. After a week quarantining in my tiny bedroom, I emerged to my roof (a place of great solace), and was struck by the sky. It hit me then how observing and documenting the sky has become a sort of spiritual practice- a practice of feeling small but expansive, a practice of letting go.
Drawn over the course of three days from sun up to sundown, this drawing was a dance with the elements. I would watch August thunderstorms come in and then rush the piece just inside before they hit. Then pull it back out when the rain passed to try to capture the brooding clouds. And then there was the wind. Which did its best to try to steal the drawing- taped to cardboard balance on two folding chairs as an impromptu easel. Each piece I do becomes a meditation of place and movement. Magic in noticing and exploring.
